I decided to write this poem because I have been inspired through studying other poets. Studying Keats has really helped me create my voice when it comes to poetry. I am not saying in any way that my poems are anywhere near as good as Keats' masterpieces, but I think it is sometimes important to understand where inspiration comes from in order to grow as a writer. Why has Keats inspired me so much? Maybe it is the nature of his poems, and how many of his views coincide with many of mine. Maybe it is because of the sheer beauty of the words he selects and the meaning behind each symbol. It astounds me how Keats was able to have such modern and radical views on religion and the nature of life when he lived over 200 years ago. Does grace in words and the truth of life transcend time? This seems to be the case - Keats shows the beauty and other side to life - a side that is often neglected in modern day society - an appreciation of nature, beauty and truth.
